The river vally at the beat and the area extending far south on the other side of the river is a Natura 2000 site. Natura 2000 is a network of core breeding and resting sites for rare and threatened mainly bird species, and includes some rare natural habitat types, which are protected. Natura 2000 sites stretch across all 28 EU countries.

The river valley is very unspoiled and open, with few trees due to grassing horses and castle. It is a rich nature with many wild plants, clean water insects, several birds of prey species. kingfisher bird, otters, and badgers.

The southern side of the river is an old nature protected heath area of about 500 ha. It has a good population of cranes (a large bird), and when fishing you oftenhear them behind the hills on the other side of the river. Sometime you see them in the valley meadow.
