The opening of the 2022 season 16 April went very well. The weather was super, sun, mild, light wind only, and ok water level in spite of 10 days of dry weather. In total for the whole river 45 salmon were caught. In Hulvigsalmon we got 7 salmon with the biggest 12.6 kg and an average weight of 7.7 kg. The catch rate was as high as one take per 6 hours, one out of three fish lost before landing, as is quite normal when barbless hooks are used. Now 4 days into the season 55 salmon has been landed which is already 2/3 of the annual quota of large salmon. The quota will probably soon expire. The quota of small salmon (less than 75 cm) has only been reduced by 2 fish - these grilse normally come in around mid-August and most people use C&R for these, so normally there are fish left in the quota of small salmon when the season ends 31 October. The rule of only one salmon per angler per year still exist. But for C&R you can catch as many as you manage to catch but it is recommended that you stop fishing for the season when you pass 10 salmon in a given season.
